What if your next trip accomplished more than just taking you somewhere beautiful? What if it brought you closer to God, deeper into community with others who love Young Life, and left you with memories you’ll carry for the rest of your life?
That’s the heartbeat of Young Life Expeditions trips.
Expeditions trips create service and engagement experiences for Young Life adults, families and supporters to connect with Young Life staff, volunteers and kids around the world. As participants put their faith into action, hearts and minds are transformed. Every logistical detail – lodging, transportation, food and more – is handled so you can simply show up and be present.
Trips like these are also an opportunity to learn more from international staff, local to that region. We regularly pair local Young Life staff with the trips, which gives opportunities for international staff to meet new people they would not normally get to interact with. It also allows trip participants to get to know staff members, including the current state of the Young Life ministry, learn needs and challenges of that local ministry, and build friendships that last decades.
It’s not uncommon for these trips to spark a passion for the local culture and local Young Life ministry, which opens doors to join boards (Action Teams), plan future trips with other adults to serve, or even build financial partnerships to help sustain ministry nearby.
Here’s what past travelers have said:
Aundie Bishop, Peru: “I joined the women’s trip to Peru because the blend of adventure and luxury felt irresistible — and the group of incredible women going made it even more special. Growing closer to God while hiking through the Andes at 16,000 feet turned out to be an unexpected bonus!”
Meghan Falatok: “This truly was the trip of a lifetime. Looking up from our campsite to a sky full of endless stars, feeling the weather shift as we reached the summit, endless laughs with one another, breathtaking scenery, and God’s presence on our journey.”
Nathaly, Young Life staff in Colombia: “This was more than an adventure! Being able to see God in the middle of his creation with people who are a sign of his love was a blessing.”
Thomas Pfeifer: “The trips are planned and executed so well. All you have to do is show up. As great as the trips are, the memories are even better when you get to share in God’s Word with people we stay in touch with ‘beyond’ the trip.”
Valerie Morris: ”We were first invited to go see Machu Picchu on an Expeditions trip in 2019, but it took us nearly five more years before we could make it happen, thanks to the pandemic and life with young children. We were blown away by the experience — everything was carefully thought out, from the time with local staff in Cusco, Peru, to the meals and accommodations, and more. Because of our relationship with the local staff member from the region, we have stayed in contact and recently joined the Amazon Region’s board. Because of this relationship, we have future trips on our radar to go and experience even more.”

What if you want to build out your own group of adults to do an epic trip together? The fun thing about Young Life is that we’re up for the fun. We love it when a group of adults pitches an idea for doing their own group trip. We have the flexibility with working with Beyond Adventures (founded and run by former Young Life staff, Drew Voyles), to customize a trip, set dates that work for you, and collaborate with Young Life staff to create a memorable experience with local ministry too.
But, what if these dates don’t work for you?
Reach out. Use the links above to reach out to the trip host. We have interest lists running for future excursions and can keep you in the loop for other trip dates.
Not a jet-setter?
Maybe traveling around the globe feels daunting. Maybe you can’t commit that much time to travel. Did you know Young Life also has a variety of retreats for adult men and adult women, as well as family camps? We also do shorter trips to experience things like Sundance Film Festival, Savannah Bananas, and more. These trips are amazing opportunities to engage with culture, Young Life staff, and our faith in the context of epic excellence, and sometimes silly, FUN!
